Walnut Kataifi
A delicious dessert made with roasted kataifi and walnuts, soaked in a sweet syrup.
Ingredients:
For the Dough:
- 125g butter or margarine
- 60ml vegetable oil
- 1 egg yolk
- 2 tbsp yogurt
- 2 tbsp powdered sugar
- 1 packet baking powder
- 1 packet vanilla
- 3 tbsp semolina
- 2.5 cups flour
- 1 cup roasted shredded kataifi
- 1 cup walnuts (chopped)
For the Syrup:
- 2 cups sugar
- 2 cups water (400ml)
- 2 tbsp molasses
For Coating:
- 1 egg white
- Roasted shredded kataifi
Instructions:
- Prepare the syrup by boiling sugar and water for 10 minutes. Remove from heat and mix in molasses. Let cool.
- In a mixing bowl, combine butter, oil, egg yolk, yogurt, powdered sugar, baking powder, vanilla, and semolina. Gradually add flour and knead into a smooth dough.
- Fold in walnuts and roasted kataifi. Shape the dough into small finger-sized balls.
- Dip each shaped piece into egg white, then coat with roasted kataifi.
- Arrange on a baking tray and bake in a preheated oven at 180°C (350°F) for 25 minutes until golden brown.
- Pour cooled syrup over the hot desserts and let them absorb for a few hours before serving.
- Garnish with pistachios and enjoy!
